Valkenburg centre or Cauberg: which area should you choose?
Choose the centre for the station, restaurants and walking without a major climb. Choose Cauberg when the spa, caves or hill activities are your main reason to visit and the gradient suits you.

At a glance
Historic centre
The densest mix of restaurants and town streets; busier at peaks; a logical walking base from Valkenburg station.
Cauberg
A strong leisure profile and current 365-day spa operation; gradient and precise address matter more.
02
Why the gradient matters
‘On the Cauberg’ can mean the foot, middle or top of the hill. Check the actual walking route, climb, luggage plan and accessible entrance—not straight-line distance.
With heavy luggage: ask about transfer or step-free access.
With limited mobility: verify door to door, not a property label.
For evenings in the centre: make the return climb part of the decision.
03
Why a night can add value
The spa publishes 365-day operation and Gemeentegrot a 2026 programme. That confirms both activities are current, not that they are available on your date. A night is most useful when you combine a long activity with time in the town centre.
No ticket means no access claim.
No live inventory means no availability claim.
Holidays and individual venues may differ.

Our choice
If you are unsure and making a first car-free visit, choose the centre. Choose Cauberg deliberately, not because the two zones look close on a map.
