Valkenburg travel guide

Valkenburg events: confirmed autumn and Christmas dates

This guide covers the published October 2026 programme and the 2026–2027 Christmas season, checked on 7 October 2026. Plan around the specific activity you want, not only the festival's overall dates. Individual entrances, opening days, capacities and tickets remain the organiser's responsibility.

01

October 2026: Bokkenweken

The official October programme lists the Valkenburgsche Fakkeltocht on 14, 17, 21 and 31 October at 14:00, Bok 'n Blues on Sunday 18 October, children's Bokkesjpele on Saturday 24 October, and the Bokkenconcert on Sunday 25 October at 14:00 on Theodoor Dorrenplein. The opening parade on 4 October has already taken place. Follow the programme for each activity's location, booking and changes.

02

Christmas Town: 13 November 2026–3 January 2027

These are the overall Christmas Town season dates. They do not mean that every venue runs on every day, or that one ticket covers the whole town. Build your day from the official ticket and programme pages. Do not assume a Christmas parade runs on your chosen evening without checking that specific performance.

03

Cave markets end on 30 December

The official ticket page lists both Gemeentegrot and Fluweelengrot Christmas markets from 13 November to 30 December 2026. Kerst in MergelRijk, Winter Wonderland and Ongelofelijk Zand are listed from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. Check holiday exceptions and last admission for the particular venue. Market admission and ordinary guided cave tours are different products.

04

Christmas caves: wheelchairs and dogs

The official Christmas FAQ lists the Gemeentegrot and Fluweelengrot markets as wheelchair accessible, but MergelRijk and Winter Wonderland as currently unsuitable for wheelchairs and rollators. It does not allow dogs underground at the cave markets; MergelRijk has a separate dog exception. Confirm specific requirements with the venue. Regular cave-tour rules must not be applied automatically to Christmas-market visits.

05

Slots, meals and the journey home

Choose your date and first attraction slot before arranging another paid activity. Leave time to walk between entrances, eat and queue; the organiser suggests around 1.5 hours per cave-market visit. Weekdays and public transport are its recommended choices. If the programme includes an evening plus the following morning, compare a local overnight stay; otherwise check your return train before reserving dinner.

06

Other dates and future editions

Use the destination's live events agenda for exhibitions, performances and new announcements. This dated guide does not confirm the next edition of a recurring event. Check the activity's own page again before committing to travel, particularly for cancellations, accessibility and ticket terms; a published programme is not proof of remaining capacity.
